Gold Refining
Purity begins with provenance.
Exploring refining partnerships that connect documented origin, transparent processing and independently established quality, while considering where more value can remain in Africa.
01A refining pathway
Our focus is on evaluating qualified processing relationships and understanding the documentation, assay and logistics required to move responsibly from material intake to refined product. The pathway must suit the material and the proposed transaction, with clarity on the parties involved, their responsibilities and the evidence required at each stage.
02Quality, independently established
Purity and weight should be established through agreed sampling and assay procedures. Product specifications, processing losses and settlement terms must be documented for each transaction. Clear procedures help counterparties understand how material is received, how results are determined and how any differences will be resolved.
03Responsible intake
Provenance review, counterparty assessment and applicable regulatory requirements form part of the proposed intake process. Material should be supported by documentation appropriate to its origin and route, with unresolved questions addressed before acceptance. Any processing relationship must be assessed on its own merits; we make no claim of refinery accreditation or existing processing capacity.
04More value close to origin
Local processing and refining can form part of a broader ambition to retain more economic value in producing countries. We are interested in pathways that could build technical expertise, create skilled work and support related services around the gold value chain. Their suitability depends on a sound commercial case, reliable infrastructure and the ability to manage environmental and operational responsibilities.
05Capacity shaped by the opportunity
A refining proposal begins with practical questions: the type and consistency of feed material, expected volumes, energy and water needs, technical competence and the intended market. These considerations help determine whether a partnership, an existing processing route or a future development concept deserves further study. Our role is to help connect the opportunity with a credible, proportionate next step.
